Maldives vs Bora Bora
The Maldives and Bora Bora look virtually indistinguishable in travel photos. They are both very beautiful destinations. With their turquoise waters, stunning islands, and luxury resorts — it’s hard to choose where to go.
If you are planning your honeymoon or just your next travel vacation, here are some of the things to consider when choosing between the two.
Time Of The Year
One of the best ways to pick between the two is the time of the year. Bora Bora is best to visit between May to October. Its best season coincides with the summer in the United States. It is part of the reason why it is so popular. If you are planning a summer vacation between those months, Bora Bora would be the perfect destination.
However, if you are looking to book a trip between December and April, Maldives would be the best place to go. Especially if you are looking for somewhere warm to spend the holidays in.
Unfortunately, the summer in the US is the rainy season in the Maldives. However, we have hadfriends visit the Maldives in October. Rates are significantly lower and apart from the occasional drizzle, they said it was sunny all throughout. It is worth considering.
Still, the monsoon season in the Maldives tends to get wetter than that of Bora-Bora. For a fool-proof vacation, it is best to go to either destination in their summer or dry season.
Budget
Both destinations can easily get expensive, especially if you want only the best accommodation. In general, however, Bora-Bora tends to be more expensive: from food, drinks, to accommodation.
Of course, in terms of plane tickets, it all depends where you are coming from. If you are flying from the United States, Bora-Bora would be significantly cheaper. If you are from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, Maldives would be the more affordable option.

Available Activities
While Maldives boasts of at least a thousand islands, island hopping is not as easy as you would hope. In Maldives, you would likely just have to stay in your hotel or resort. Enjoy in-house amenities, swim around, and lay in your cabana. This is perfect for those who are not really up for a lot of movement, just rest and relaxation.
If you are up for a little bit more mobility, Bora Bora would be perfect. There are air packages in Bora-Bora that do exactly this. There are air flight passes that can take you to other French Polynesian islands. All diverse and significantly different looking than each other. Each worth the visit.
Other Things To Consider
Bora-bora can draw a little bit more crowd than the Maldives. Bora-bora is and feels more developed than the Maldives. This definitely attracts a lot of travelers who really do not want to feel like they are in the middle of nowhere.
Of course, Maldives can get a bit crowded, too, but it seems to always manage to have that ‘off the map’ feel. For those who want to really feel like they’re away, for more peace and quiet, Maldives would be the best destination for you.
