Delaware

Located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, Delaware is the second smallest state in the country. Second to Rhode Island. It still happens to be the sixth most densely populated state in the country though. It is bordered by Maryland to its south, Pennsylvania to its North, and New Jersey to its North. To its East is the Atlantic Ocean, giving Delaware a number of wonderful beaches leading to the coast.

Geography

Now, Delaware may be small but it does not mean there is not a lot to this one little state. You would not believe how much it managed to pack into its small land area. It has beautiful state parks, beaches, islands, and great cities. Delaware also features some pretty great historical landmarks that are pretty hard to miss.

History

Delaware’s history is actually also pretty interesting. Prior to the Europeans’ arrival in the 16th century, Delaware was already inhabited by several groups of Native Americans. Indigenous Peoples were particularly attracted to Delaware because of its fertile land and the river, the Delaware River, cutting through the state. Up until recently, most of Delaware was primarily agricultural land, too.

Weather

It is also interesting that despite Delaware’s small size, there is significant climate variation within its land area. The state does have a humid subtropical climate as a whole (mainly for being right in front of the Atlantic Ocean). However, the northern portion of Delaware actually has white winters. Whereas the south has a much milder climate which makes it still perfect for agriculture. If you are considering visiting Delaware, you might have to consider this climate variation.

Tourism

Of course, Delaware may not be the first destination in your mind when thinking of a getaway vacation, but it is actually a fantastic tourist destination. It has a lot to offer its tourists. Its beaches alone offer a variety of activities from wakeboarding, parasailing, and windsurfing. It even has an island and within that island is a state park, the Fenwick Island State Park. It is basically a whole island to play on where one can hike, fish, sunbathe, or just swim.

Delaware’s cities are also unique with each of their own charm. They have their own dining scenes and nightlife. Above its cities and beaches though, what is even more interesting is the wildlife observable in the area. Delaware has its very own wildlife refuge center, the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge.

See, Delaware may be small, but it certainly has a lot to offer. Just as much as any other state and that is pretty impressive given its size.
