Georgia
Georgia is one of those states that can and will take everyone by surprise. There are so much adventures tucked in this state. It has beautiful state parks with hiking trails that reward the most spectacular views. It has mountains, it has falls, it has canyons, and it has the wildlife. It is basically every outdoor adventurer wishes to have to make for a perfect trip. To top it all off, Georgia even has beaches! Of course, Georgia has some great pretty good looking cities, too!
Geography
Located in the Southeastern region of the United States, Georgia boasts a moderate land area that manages to pack great biodiversity. Depending on where you are coming from, Georgia is even the end or the beginning of the Appalachian Trail. Georgia is also big enough to have regions with very different characteristics. On its mountainous north, for instance, are mostly made of limestone, sandstone, and shale.
Climate
While Georgia’s climate, for the most part, is humid-subtropical. The northern parts of Georgia with higher elevation naturally have different climates and more erratic weather altogether. Those thinking of exploring or hiking through the Blue Ridge Mountains would definitely have to keep that in mind.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Georgia is actually one of the states with the highest frequency of tornado. These tornadoes rarely strike cities and rarely do they become strong. It is another thing to keep in mind, though.
Tourism and Attractions
Now, we know what you are thinking. Georgia having its own Canyon seems pretty random and out of the blue. It is true that canyons are not exactly typical in this region of the country. Providence Canyon, which Georgia refers to as their Little Grand Canyon, is actually not natural. It is reported to be a result of severe soil erosion brought by bad farming practices back in the 1800s. This is what caused the deep gullies and for the soil to practically plunge about 150 feet down. Natural or not though, it still makes for a very interesting sight. The warm hues are fantastic in photos and the place offers some pretty great hiking trails.
There are quite a number of state parks in Georgia that you probably would not have enough time to go through all of them in one trip. What you may want to consider other than park-hopping though is to visit one or two historical sites. Georgia has at least five sites that can give you a sneak peek to the state’s Native American heritage. Visiting at least one would certainly make for a holistic tourist experience in the state.
