Geography

New Hampshire is located in the Northeastern part of the United States. The state’s boundary is bordered by Quebec, Canada from the North, Maine and Atlantic Ocean to the east, Massachusetts to the south, and Vermont to the west.

The state of New Hampshire has six major regions. Namely: Great North Woods, White Mountains, Lakes Region, Seacoast, Merrimack Valley, Monadnock Region, and the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee. The state is unique for having the shortest ocean coastline. Its total ocean coastline with a length of 18 miles.

New Hampshire has the highest percentage of timberland area in the country. This is especially true for the White Mountains area with conifers, northern hardwoods, and New England-Acadian forests.

History

Before English and French explorers explored the New Hampshire area in the beginning of the 17th century. Before their exploration, the New Hampshire area was already inhabited by several indigenous tribes. Each of the tribes, though they speak similar languages, they have very different religions and cultures.

The state has played significant roles in the country’s history. It is one of the thirteen colonies that rebelled against British during the American Revolution. The United States Constitution was ratified by New Hampshire on June 21, 1788.

Weather

New Hampshire has a humid continental climate. Its northern highland areas tend to have warm, humid summers and long, cold, and snowy winters. Its southeastern parts, on the other hand, have a much milder winter. Still, winters are generally cold throughout the state, but is much more intense in the northern and mountainous areas.

This is what makes the northern parts of New Hampshire particularly popular for skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and mountain biking.

Tourism

North Conway and Mt. Washington Valley Ski Resorts is one of the first ski resorts in the country. It also remains as a major ski destination in the country and it is located in New Hampshire. It has everything from skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, dog-sledding, sleigh rides, and ice skating.

Mt. Monadnock, Kancamagus Highway and White Mountain National Forest, and the Flume Gorge and Franconia Notch are some of the most top-rated attractions in New Hampshire as well.
