Colorado

Colorado is the ultimate adventure for many outdoor adventurers. Its dramatic landscapes with its Rocky Mountains, alpine lakes, high deserts, and sandstone formations are sure to take everyone’s breath away. The list of everything we love about Colorado is endless. There are just too many destinations and activities to enumerate. It truly is a one-of-a-kind destination for those looking for their next adventure.

Geography

Colorado boasts of great geographic diversity. It has alpine mountains, deserts, sand dunes, deep canyons, and high plains. More than the dramatic landscapes and sceneries it gave the state, its mountains have been very strategic, too. Its terrain has protected its cities and people. In fact, roughly 70% of Colorado’s entire population is living at the eastern fringe of the Rocky Mountains. They live there for a reason. The rocky mountains have protected them from prevailing storms coming and blowing from the Pacific Ocean.

The boundaries of Colorado are pretty unique as well. it is defined by boundary markers — straight boundary lines. It is worth noting that only Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah are the only states with borders that are defined with these straight boundary lines. Other states are typically defined by natural features.

Another pretty interesting quirk about Colorado is that it is the only place where four states of the United States meet. It is called the Four Corners Monument and it is actually a popular tourist destination on its own.

Of course, come winter, parts of Colorado completely transform into this winter wonderland. In our opinion, one of the Top 5 skiing destinations in the world is located in Colorado. In Vail, Colorado, specifically. The slopes are majestic and any self-respecting skiers would have definitely heard of this place. They must have it on their bucket list if they have not already gone to it. And if you have not heard of it, now that you have heard of it — you have to visit it.

History

Along with the one-of-a-kind scenery is its one-of-a-kind history. The lands of Colorado have been walked on for more than 13,000 years. They have found artifacts as early as 11,200 BC. Historians who have studied it said that the Eastern Edge of the Rocky Mountains was a major migration route that allowed the early people in America to spread throughout the continent.

Then, after some territorial dispute with Spain for decades, the United States officially proclaimed Colorado as its 38th state in 1876.

Weather

The climate in Colorado is noted to be one of the most complex in the country. Whereas most southern parts of every state are typically warmer, this is not necessarily true for Colorado. This is because of the great number of mountains and high plains scattered throughout Colorado. Colorado is prone to extreme weather changes, too, more than any other state. This one thing to note if you are traveling here soon. It is best to keep an extra eye out to monitor weather apps for your trip.

Overall, if there is only one state you can visit throughout the year, our pick would probably be Colorado. It just has everything you could ever ask for for a destination and so much more.
