Connecticut

Nicknamed many things, ‘’Constitution State”, “Nutmeg State”, “Provisions State”, and the “Land of Steady Habits”, Connecticut is truly all of those in one small state. It is a wonderful destination for all ages. Located in the New England region, the state is bordered by New York to the west, Rhode Island to the east, Long Island Sound to the south, and Massachusetts to the north.

Geography

Connecticut is the third smallest state in the United States. It is also quite dense in population, being the fourth densest state in the whole country. Now, it may not have the vast wilderness, nor the largest, most interesting camping grounds, but Connecticut certainly has its own charm. It has beautiful lakes, so many waterfalls, and wonderful sandy beaches. On top of that it has museums, galleries, aquariums, and historical cottages. It has its own character unique to its own state that is sure to attract tourists of all ages.

The Connecticut River, which cuts through almost the entire state, features great diverse landscapes for exploration. It has rolling mountains, horse farms, coastal marshes, and yes, even beaches. It has its fair share of historical landmarks, too. Many towns have actually retained colonial structures like their taverns, inns, and churches. Many more recent houses have opted to follow the same aesthetic. These all have tremendously helped in Connecticut’s historic preservation and tourism. And it does make the state’s cities very picturesque so don’t forget to bring a good camera with you.

History

Of course, Connecticut has a far longer history than the colonial period. Evidence of human activities has been studied in the Connecticut area as early as 10,000 years ago. As much as there is colonial appreciation, there are destinations you can visit to recall and study the history of Native Americans in Connecticut. The Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center is a good jumping point to learn more about Connecticut’s Native American heritage.

Weather

Connecticut, like most of the East Coast, experiences cold winters and hot summers. Heatwaves may even occasionally occur. Thunderstorms can also get pretty severe which is why it is best to plan with the season and the weather in mind. Of course, there is nothing quite like Connecticut in the fall. The temperature gets cooler, the streets grow colorful each day, and the oak and hickory trees are just fantastic to look at.

Tourism

Connecticut, though small, will prove to be a one of a kind destination. Its sprawling lakes and waterfalls, sandy beaches, and white picket fences would easily charm anyone. Those and the quaint shops and cafes that dot its cities.
