Geography

Right below North Carolina is the beautiful state of South Carolina. There are three natural geographic areas and five cultural regions in South Carolina. The Atlantic coastal plain is typically wet with marshlands and can commonly be dazzled with mesmerizing prehistoric sedimentary rocks.

The upstate around the Blue Ridge Mountains has thick vegetation. You can appreciate the bluish shade of the combination of the horizon traversing across the mountains. On the other hand, the Atlantic Coastal Plain is known for the Carolina Bays. These circular lakes are remnants of small pieces of comets that had collided with earth approximately 12, 000 years ago.

Fun but cautioning facts though, South Carolina experiences an average of 15 minor and major earthquakes a year. Something that you should know, isn’t it?

History

Dating back to 40,000 years ago, South Carolina already has evidence of early human activity. It was home to various Native American tribes such as the Cherokee and Catawba or most commonly known as Iswa. Tribes in South Carolina thrive within jungles, plains, and along rivers. Tribes created villages and heavily relied on agriculture. It was a place to learn about early agricultural systems.

Interestingly, some of the tribes mastered the art of fishing. At the same time, they used the land for crops such as corn and peas. The hunter-gatherer system to thrive and live was pretty much the way of living, too. Deers, wild boar, and as well as fruits helped feed the early tribes.

Weather

Characterized by the subtropical climate, South Carolina can experience dry and hot summers. The climate is predominately hot and occasionally experiences cold winters. Despite having such a climate, you may rarely see snowfall during winter.

During August, South Carolina receives the most rainfall and least during November. If not researched well, you may experience this inconvenient time of the year when you are expecting an awesome summer vacation. Sounding like a hot and humid state, South Carolina also experiences 4 seasons with some ending quicker than usual.

Tourism

With an average of 19 million visitors a year, Myrtle Beach is one of the most popular vacation spots in the United States. If you are not a beach person, you can also walk through the commercial tea plantation in Wadmalaw Island in Charleston County.

If you are a music enthusiast, you would probably know that James Brown and Chubby Checker are from South Carolina. South Carolina is also known for its pop-beach music, a mix of R&B and rock which gave birth to “The Shag”. Myrtle Beach is also known for giving birth to great modern dancers. You do not have to be a good dancer to have a great time in South Carolina, though!
