Adventure Guide: Things to do around New York City

New York City

It is true. One trip to the State of New York is just not enough to cover everything. While New York City is just a slice of a true New York experience, New York City is a large slice. It is large enough that you probably do not know where to start beginning your itinerary.

If you are looking for a place to start, you are in the right place. Don’t miss a thing and write all of these activities down to get the most out of your trip to this city.

Spend a day in Central Park

If you are running on a tight trip schedule, spending a day in Central Park may seem like a waste of time. It’s not. Central Park is just a quintessential part of any trip to New York City. There is a reason why it is one of the most, if not the most famous, parks in the world.

Spend a day aroundCentral Park and you’ll see. You will be surprised how New Yorkers have really made this green open space into a space worth flying over to just hang out in.

Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art

The art scene in New York is phenomenal and the Metropolitan Museum of Art is one you should not miss. There is a reason why the MET is one of the most prestigious museums in the world. We recommend allotting 3-5 hours for the MET to really appreciate what it is all about.

Side note: even though the MET’s collection is impressive, it still does not cover how vibrant the art scene in this city is. New York teems with independent artists, small galleries, starting musicians that are waiting to be discovered and appreciated. Still, if you’re asking us, the MET is a pretty good jump-off point.

Attend a Broadway show

It does not matter if you do not consider yourself a ‘theater fan’, do yourself a favor and just buy a ticket. Everyone is not a ‘theater person’ until they actually see a show. If you are eyeing a popular show, best to purchase your tickets in advance to make sure.

If you do not know where to start, just pick a classic or a popular one. Our favorite shows are Hamilton, Wicked, and Chicago. Book your tickets here.

Climb the Empire State Building

A landmark building in New York City, the Empire State Building is too iconic to miss. There are two observatories on top of the Empire State Building. There is the 86th floor with its open-air observation deck or the top deck on the 102nd floor. Both of which give a one of a kind view of New York. On clear days, you can even see New Jersey and other nearby states from up there.

The line can get pretty long so you may want to consider purchasing a Skip the Line ticket. It does exactly what you think it does. It will let you skip the lines and save significant time exploring the city.

See Times Square for yourself

We have seen Times Square in so many movies that just being there feels like you are part of one. Perpetually busy and bustling, it is all just part of the whole Times Square experience. There are bleachers set up at the end where you can just sit down, take a break, and just take it all in.
