Why you have to visit Iowa
You have heard of how incredible Colorado is, how beautiful California is, or how fun it is in Nevada. With the country’s 47 other states though, you might be surprised how much adventure is tucked in other states though. Here are the five reasons why you also have to visit Iowa.
For some incredible sceneries
From the Boone and Scenic Valley Road, the Historic Hills Scenic Byway, to the Roller Coaster Road of Allamakee County — Iowa is blessed with some of the greatest sceneries the midwest has to offer. Motorcycle through the scenes of the Des Moines River, roll down your car’s window, or go on a nature walk. Iowa is just beautiful all year round.
Some of the destinations you cannot miss are the Maquoketa Caves State Park, Pikes Peak Park, and the Ledges State Park. All of which are unique to their own. Each of them will feel like you are in a beautiful midwest film scene.
One of a kind roadtrip experience
Beautiful sceneries make for the perfect road trip. This is what makes Iowa worth the detour or a road trip destination of its own. The roads surrounding the Des Moines River are particularly beautiful. Drop by the Lacey-Keosauqua State Park and Historic Hills Scenic Byway.
There are other several road trips you can take within the state. This just tells you the exuberance of this state alone. You can take on a road trip that scours the eight waterfalls found all around Iowa. You may also take a road trip dropping by the haunted houses in Iowa. If you are up for it, of course. That will definitely be quite a thing to have on your bucket list.
Caves!
You may also take a road trip visiting the five caves in Iowa. Namely, Spook Cave, Maquoketa Caves State Park, Ice Cave State Preserve, Crystal Lake Cave, and Wapsipinicon State Park Caves. This will definitely make for a unique road trip experience. The cave parks vary from easy trails, well lit paths, to more difficult, narrower and harder to navigate caves.
It will certainly be fun to experience Iowa through its underground!
Historical Landmarks
We are sure many other states have their fair share of historical landmarks. Iowa has twenty six of them. One of which is the Amana Colonies which comprises seven historic villages founded by German immigrants in 1855. These were religious communal villages that managed to preserve their crafts, making it one of the most famous attractions in Iowa. Some other historical landmarks you may want to visit are the Blood Run Site, Historic General Dodge House, and the Merchants National Bank at Grinnell.
The food scene
Iowa is often dismissed as just another Midwestern state when it comes to food and drinks. It is often just passed by on road trips. The key, however, to fully appreciating what Iowa is all about is by experiencing their culinary scene. As with any culture, it is the only way you will get to understand a culture and its people. You would be surprised by the diversity of the food scene in Iowa from German, Ecuadorian, Denmark, to some great pizzas and some of the finest barbecue.
It may surprise you but Iowa is also home to some fine chocolates and great wine. There is a small family home in Des Moines, called Drew’s Chocolates, that make some great pretty great bonbons. You might not know this too but Iowa is actually producing a lot of wine, too. So whatever you are in for, you will definitely find something for you in Iowa.
