Adventure Guide: Things to do in Connecticut
Nicknamed many things, ‘’Constitution State”, “Nutmeg State”, “Provisions State”, and the “Land of Steady Habits”, Connecticut is truly all of those in one small state. It is a wonderful destination for all ages. Located in the New England region, the state is bordered by New York to the west, Rhode Island to the east, Long Island Sound to the south, and Massachusetts to the north. For such a small state, it definitely has a lot going for it.
Here is everything you need to do if you are ever there for a visit.
See the Gillette Castle Park
Across the Connecticut River to Hadlyme is an unexpected, seemingly unbelonging Gothic Castle. It is a 184 acre estate. It offers some of the most spectacular views of the Connecticut River. The castle itself, however, is simply majestic. Whimsical in its own right. It has everything from secret passageways, rooms filled with mirrors, unique furnishings, and secret doors.
It is beautiful from afar and up close in person. Here you can roam around, hike, even have a good afternoon picnic on its ground. It is a perfect day trip destination.

Go for a picnic and a hike at Kent State Park
Kent Park is a wonderful fishing spot for those looking for it. Not that fishing is not entirely an adventure of its own. Here though, you can go for a hike. A quick one or a long one, depending on your trail of choice. The view of the waterfall is pretty amazing, too. It is beautiful up close and somehow even more magnificent from afar.
Definitely worth getting out of your way for. Find out more about Kent Falls State Park here.
Swim at Silver Sands State Park
Connecticut is not exactly a summer or swimming destination. If you are up for it, however, there is always Silver Sands State Park. Located on Long Island in Milford, the state park has just about everything. It has the beach, some dunes, open areas, woods, and restored salt marsh. Here you can go swimming, lay out a blanket for a picnic, trek, or bird watching.
Here is everything you need to know about Silver Sands State Park before dropping a visit.
Take a quick dip at Enders State Forest
Enders offer a number of trails where you can go for a day trip. It is located between the towns of Granby and Barkhamsted, Enders Park is 1,500 acre of nature and recreation. Enders Falls is particularly popular in summers. Several waterfalls offer some pretty good swimming spots. You could go for a quick dip, and if you are up for it, go cliff jumping.
Please take note that there have been several injuries and deaths reported in the park so the state actually warns against cliff jumping. Know more about Enders State Forest here.
Take a film camera to Old Saybrook
One of New England’s oldest towns, Old Saybrook offers some very picturesque views. It is this small old town with colorful, historic buildings, great dining spots, and is just all around pretty. We recommend bringing a bike or renting a bike to really roam this classic old town. Be sure to take a good camera with you, too! You will definitely need it.
