Geography
Mexico is the fifth-largest state in the country. It is bordered by several states like Colorado, Arizona, and Utah. The Southern border is primarily bordered by Texas. New Mexico’s southern one-third, on the other hand, is bordered by Chihuahua and Sonora, Mexico.
New Mexican landscape is incredibly diverse. If you know where to go, New Mexico can really be mesmerizing. It has auburn-colored deserts, broken mesas, and snow-capped mountains. While New Mexico is often portrayed in films as this dry and arid land, the state is actually heavily forested mountain wilderness.
The national government protects millions of acres of national forests in New Mexico. Some of these national forests are Carsion National Forest, Cibola National Forest, and Lincoln National Forest. There are about twenty national parks and about forty state parks within the state’s territory as well. It is a true nature wonderland for many adventurers.
History
Archaeological evidence shows that New Mexico has at least been populated since 9,200 BCE. Artificats and architecture recovered in the area impressively demonstrate complex culture in the region. There were evidence of built houses made of stone or adobe bricks. Some of the prehistoric groups traced in New Mexico are Clovis, Folsom, Mogollon, and Anasazi.
The first European exploration were done by the Spanish. Spain would establish settlement in 1598. New Mexico becomes a provice of Mexico after Mexcio declared independence from Spain. The United States would acquire most of New Mexico by 1848. By 1912, New Mexico is admitted as the 47th state.
Weather
New Mexico’s climate is semiarid to arid. New Mexico is large enough to have several climate types though. It also has continental and alpine climates. Annual temperatures vary from 18 degree celsius up to 4 degree celsius. Of course, there are parts that are hotter and colder than others. In Albuquerque, for instance, summers are hot and winters are short and very cold.
The best time to visit Mexico is between September to November. The weather during these months tend to be pleasant. Spring also tends to have milder weather. If you are planning for a ski-trip though, of course, you have got to to go on the winter.
Tourism
New Mexico has undeniably some of the tourist attractions in the country. There is the Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Bandelier National Monument, Petroglyph National Monument, and Taos Pueblo. There is also the Taos Ski Valley, Pecos National Historical Park, and Chaco Culture National Historical Park.
