The Best Campgrounds in Minnesota

Lake Minnetonka Minnesota

The state of Minnesota is blessed with beautiful forests and wildernesses. Within its borders, there are a number of state parks and national forests to choose from. All of which offer different sceneries and activities. If you are feeling a little bit overwhelmed on where exactly to start or go, here is a list of our favorite campgrounds in Minnesota.

Lakeview Campground

Located at Father Hennepin State Park, Lakeview Campground is one of the sixty campgrounds in the area. Around half of them have access to electricity, the other is much wilder and raw with no outlets or comfort room. Lakeview Campground itself is more specifically located on the shores of Mille Lacs Lake.

Minnesota Lakeview

Mille Lacs Lake itself is actually a year-round destination in Minnesota. The lake may be relatively shallow than most lakes but it is still an excellent fishing spot. It is also surrounded by miles of trails that are perfect for hiking, cycling, as well as trail running. You may even ride an ATV on some trails. This is primarily what makes Lakeview Campground an excellent campsite. There are just so many things to do! Access to these activities just makes camping all the more fun.

Stony Point Campground

Stony Point Campground is usually used as a jump-off point to Chippewa National Forest. It can, however, be a destination of its own. We especially recommend these campgrounds that just want a relaxed, leisurely camp experience. Here, you would have access to flushing toilets, shower stations, and clean drinking-water spigots.

The swimming beach and the picnic area are, of course, the true cherries on top.

Cedar Hill Campground

Whitewater State Park is undeniably one of the best state parks in Minnesota. Part of the reason why it is rated as one of the best is the sheer size of it. Cedar Hill Campground is just one of the 100 campsites in this state park. This allows it to be uncrowded despite its popularity.

These campsites are also pretty comfortable and quiet. Most of the campgrounds are very family and children-friendly. There are picnic tables and fire rings in every campground as well.

Jay Cooke State Park

Jay Cooke State Park

Jay Cooke State Park offers some of the best hiking trails in Minnesota. Here at Take More Adventures, we absolutely love long hikes and we naturally like pairing hiking and camping together. There is no better way to enjoy nature and wilderness than this two together. At Jay Cooke though, you can easily enjoy and access campgrounds that have camper cabins and restroom facilities with hot showers. You could, of course, always get a bit rawer and bring your own tent. Just be sure to make your research ahead of time to find out where you can and cannot camp inside this 8,125 acres state park.

If 300 miles of trails is not enough for you, you could always continue your hike to the Willard Munger State Trail. The two are connected to each other and Willard Munger also has some excellent campgrounds.
