Top things to do in Nevada
Known famously as the home of the glamorous city of Las Vegas, you would be surprised just how much more Nevada has to offer. Nevada is actually a state of incredible natural diversity. Outdoor enthusiasts would rejoice with the variety of landscapes and activities available.
To make sure you are getting the best of Nevada, here are some of the things you absolutely cannot miss.
Take a day trip to Lake Tahoe
Known for its crystal clear waters against the mountainous backdrop, Lake Tahoe is a sight to relish and take many photos of. It is considered to be the jewel of Sierra Nevada and has been named as one of the best adventure vacations in the United States by several US News and world reports.
The panoramic view of the mountains on all sides makes an interesting backdrop for hiking, kayaking, paddleboarding, and whitewater rafting. Even if you are not into those, it is also an excellent destination for good old-fashioned sightseeing.
As the second deepest lake in the United States, here you can dive to the deepest and hike to the Sierra Nevada’s highest peak. Or you can just ride a boat, have a picnic, or visit many of the surrounding dine-ins and galleries.
Enjoy numerous water activities at Lake Mead
Another destination for those looking for adventure, Lake Mead National Recreation Area seems to have everything: stunning landscapes and brilliant blue waters. It has mountains, canyons, valleys, and lakes. With over 759 miles of shorelines, Lake Mead makes the perfect playground.
Lake Mead is a wonderful destination ideal for a variety of water sports. Some activities you might enjoy are canoeing, boating, diving, kayaking, fishing, swimming — even sunbathing. Near Lake Mead, you can also enjoy an easy hike with the Railroad Tunnel Trail. At the peak of it, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Mead.
Hunt prehistoric art all throughout the Valley of Fire State Park
Located 16 miles down south of Overton, Nevada, the Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada’s oldest state park. It boasts of gigantic red sandstone formations that have naturally formed 150 million years ago due to shifting sand dunes. The random and extensive erosion of sand created the landscape we know today.
While the landscape itself is already stunning, prehistoric art also dots the area with petroglyphs or rock art. This makes Valley of Fire State Park both an exciting and intriguing destination here in Nevada.
At the end of the exhausting day under the sun, you can spend the night in this state park by camping. Spend a night over at the Valley of Fire State Park and find out why it is on our list of 6 best places to Camp in Summer.
Visit Reno
Often overshadowed by the lights of Las Vegas, Reno has its own bright neon lights. Reno also has a thriving casino district that occasional gamblers may enjoy. It is also home to great museums like the National Automobile Museum and the Nevada Museum of Art.
What we especially love about Reno, the Biggest Little City, is how close it is to our favorite outdoor destinations. It is near to the skiing slopes of Mount Rose and Lake Tahoe. In September, come by Reno to see the Great Reno Balloon Race.
Experience Las Vegas
Last but not the least on the list is the great city of Las Vegas. Only in Las Vegas can you be in many places at once. It has gondolas like in Venice, a replica of the Eiffel Tower, and the renowned fountain show at the Bellagio.
You certainly do not have to be a gambler to enjoy the beauty of this city. There are museums, food tours, light shows, and some really great lounges to enjoy.
